Meaningful Youth Partnerships in Child Welfare Research

Abstract Summary

 

Youth voice is a pivotal part of child welfare reform—including in the field of research. Have you ever wondered how to create a research design that incorporates young people with lived experienced in a meaningful way? Are you a young person that wants to influence how child welfare research is conducted and framed? This workshop will focus on how to engage young people with lived child welfare experience in research beyond the role of study participant. Best practices in youth engagement serve to guide researchers in how they can work in partnership with young people in research design, data collection, and data analysis. Both researchers and young people will be equipped with resources, tools, and current examples of how to develop research partnerships with in the community-based participatory research (CBPR) framework.
